I am a woman....I am invincible.....(and just a tad bit exhausted!!)

Along cameWoman’s Day, and I was itching to write an ode to the smarter sex!! Something simple yet sublime.....sentimental but not schmaltzy. And the only topic that kept popping into my head was this: “A Woman’s Laughter”.

There’s something innately charming about a woman laughing.....whether it’s a happy gurgle.....an impish grin.....a hastily muffled chuckle.....an inelegant
snort that was jus’ waiting to get out.....the incessant giggles or the Grand Poo-bah of them all.....the let ‘er Rip.....full-blown guffaw!!

And the reasons behind that laugh...........innumerous, ranging from the mundane to the ridiculous to the down-right memorable...

to name a few....
 a baby’s happy gurgle in response to the funny-faces being pulled for her entertainment.
 the plump l’il girl who chuckles with delight, when that equally plump puppy licks her button nose.
 the instant attack of the giggles that inflicts a bunch of teeny-boppers…when that oh-so-cute guy deigns to send a smile their way.
 the first time a woman meets her Prince Charming (and she knows it) AND (and he doesn’t disintegrate into Kermit’s distant cousin!!)
 enjoying an after-work soirĂ©e.....unwinding.....swapping juicy gossip.....remembering the moments of small victories and big accomplishments......chuckling wickedly when a particularly anal-retentive colleague gets his come-uppance!!
 making new friends and patching up ol’ differences.
 reunions……a time to remember, miss dem ol’days and laugh at our younger, uncomplicated selves…

……and this is jus’ the tip of the curvaceous iceberg.....there are so many more......

All I can hope for is that all the lovely ladies in my life……those I have met…and those I have still to meet.....always ALWAYS keep flashing their pearly whites.

May they always find reasons to celebrate.....always have a trusted confidante to share their woes.....always have that special someone who brings that secret smile to their lips and most importantly......always find excuses to just act plain silly and laugh uninhibitedly!!!

Here’s to our own personal Utopia!!
HAPPY WOMAN'S DAY, ladies!!

Rudolph gets the pink slip!!

The Planet Mars is going to be unusually bright this Christmas Eve, and with the full moon providing it's additional wattage......it looks like Dear Santa can give Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer a well-deserved break!!

So the good people at Yahoo! have reworked a certain reindeer song, to make it more understandable to kids and dim-witted adults like me!

Mars is a red-tinged planet
With a very shiny glow
And if you look to see it
You will find the moon in
tow.

All of the other Yuletides
Santa would have at his
side
The shiny nose of Rudolph
Acting as his big sleigh's
guide

But this very Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph, now with Mars so bright,
You can stay at home
tonight."

Then all the reindeer teased him.
And they shouted
out with glee:
"Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Outsourced to
astronomy."

Air-Tel Ad......Breaking Barriers.

A simple and beautiful ad with a fantastic message. I especially liked the passage accompanying the print ad, which goes.....

Barriers break
when people talk

The simple act of talking can bring the world together.
In the future,
countries will no longer be divided by languages but shall be united in
dialogue.
Familes will come together in lively conversations,
And people
will be set free by reason, understanding and speech.
Simply put, the world
will be a better place, if only
we talk to each other.

J.K.ROWLING - Entertainer of The Year

J.K.Rowling has been declared the Entertainer of the Year by Entertainment Weekly.....and rightly so.
I belong to the formidable legion of J.K.Rowling-fans. I don’t need to launch into an endless litany on her immense talent or her astounding success-story. Reams of newsprint, gazillion sites and a million blogs have already been dedicated to jus’ the thing.
She has been praised and maligned in equal measure. You can love her.....or hate her…but you sure as hell can’t ignore her!!
The original skeptic, I scoffed good-naturedly when a colleague recommended “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. It was a ‘children’s book’ for crying out loud……and there I was, a (debatable) adult.
But I overcame my pig-headedness and gave it a shot. Needless to say, I was hooked, booked and ready to be charted off to the world of magic and fantasy!!!
It was a good solid read and had it all…… the proverbial under-dog…..fantastic characters and astounding creatures…. ……a hidden magical world….and an immensely strong story line. The most bewitching form of escapism!
I fully intend giving my two-bit opinion on each of the Potter books….but not right now. I just felt that I had to start off my trip down Potter-lane by writing a bit ‘bout one of my front-running authors.

THE BURIED LIFE

100 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU DIE.....that’s the quest undertaken by four quirky young men.

Certain things have to be experienced and achieved, but life has an uncanny way of taking over and wishes and desires often get pushed to the back-burner. Given the penultimate deadline……these four guys have decided to turn their dreams into a reality.

Armed with an RV and a dog-eared list of 100 things to do before they die....Ben, Dave, Jonnie and Duncan are scouring the length and breadth of North America crafting a memorable documentary. Along the way, they ask people one question: "What do you want to do before you die?" and encourage others to go after their own lists too.

The inspiration for the documentary title “The Buried Life” came from a poem of the same name written by Mattew Arnold in 1852.

The lines were:
But often, in the world's most crowded streets,
But often, in the din of strife,
There rises an unspeakable desire
After the knowledge of our buried life;

From the insane to the socially responsible……their list traverses a whole range of unfulfilled wishes and aspirations. Some are easy as hell and others….downright impossible. But the journey has been incredible and inspirational.

Check out their BLOG and doodle out your own list……..goin’ after it with altleast half- the conviction and fun that these guys are having!!!
